6 years ago I was proctoring a Chemistry regents exam at a local high school and pondering how my fiance and I would ever have the money to consider having a baby. I thought, well, maybe we just won't have any? Meh. Maybe I don't want any. Maybe I don't want to get married? Maybe this whole thing is a sham. I'm spending too much time worrying about flowers and printing programs. Maybe this just doesn't feel right? Maybe I'm not meant to get married?
Whether that was anxiety talking or a major hormonal shift, I'll never know, but despite my doubts about my future I was pregnant a few months before my August wedding. At 34. Sweeeet! Not really.
Understatement of my life: I found out that things don't always go as planned.
Kind of like my little blog and directory here. Turns out, being a stay-at-home parent while trying to develop an amazing website with few alternative childcare options is kind of tough. Not being able to figure out how the hell to get your kids to bed before 9pm isn't any easier. Then throw in this cluster eff of blogging, marketing, consumer bologna? It's hard to stay focused on what my website's purpose was in the first place. It's been even more difficult to figure out how to make this something special for WNY's while being authentic to myself. Like, did you know that you can buy "likes" for your facebook business page? Or that you can increase traffic through SEO's? I just can't get behind these kinds of practices, no matter how many people it brings to my pages.
Here's the thing: I need to be authentic. I need this website to be a reflection of my needs as the mom, just as much as our holistic community's. That may not get me as many likes or web traffic, but it gets me a directory that I can 100% believe in. I hope that's something you can get behind. I'm making it a practice to support and list businesses that I believe in or know that the community deserves access to. If you believe in me and this site, please like my facebook business page, share it, and help me include businesses that reflect our mission: to provide an alternative resource directory for pregnant and early parenting.
I really appreciate your love and support and hope that you can continue to help me expand this resource.
