March 2017 This one time 3 years ago I thought parenting was so easy. I had a 2yo who slept the night at 8 weeks, she ate beet popsicles and loved any food you exposed her to, she traveled well, could sit quietly at most restaurants, walked at 10 months old, and stopped nursing easily at 2. I remember thinking that Chris and I were such wonderful parents and that gentle, attachment parenting was not only working, but easy. And then my son was born. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my husband and I haven't slept the night in more than a few consecutive days in 2.5 years. It takes its toll on your health, your sanity, your job, your parenting and especially with your relationships with other people (because when you've slept for 4 hours zero effs are given about yourself or others most days). I'm not sure why I wanted to share this, because my brain doesn't function on nights when Ben has trouble sleeping. I guess just as I shout out to the parents of kids who don't sleep. I see you and those black circles. I understand you're doing the best you can. You've consulted every book and every sleep theory. You've talk to local sleep specialists and despite all of the suggestions, you've tried essential oils, probiotics, cutting out juice, adding juice, adding pillows, taking away pillows... And your kid still doesn't effing sleep.
